ECTEL’S Plans for the next decade

Castries, Saint Lucia. A two-day Strategic Planning workshop for the stakeholders of the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) will be held in Saint Lucia, August 20 and 21, 2012. The primary purpose of the workshop is to discuss the main recommendations of the strategic review of ECTEL and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commissions (NTRCs) in the five ECTEL Member States.

The review which is being conducted by a team of international consultants commenced in March 2012 and examined a wide range of policy, regulatory and operational challenges facing the telecommunications regulatory system in the ECTEL Member States.


The Chairman of the ECTEL Council of Ministers and Minister for Telecommunications in Saint Lucia, Senator, The Hon James Fletcher will deliver the welcome address at the workshop. Other Members of the ECTEL Council of Ministers are also expected to deliver remarks.

The other participants include the Commissioners and staff of the NTRCs, telecommunications officers in the Ministries of Telecommunications in the Member States and the staff of the ECTEL Directorate based in Saint Lucia.

ECTEL was established in May 2000. The original signatories of the Treaty are the Governments of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Subsequently, NTRCs were established in these states following the passage of the relevant legislation.
